J-M secures first place with win over California
Three players scored in double figures to push Jefferson-Morgan to a 44-33 victory over California in a battle of undefeated teams in Section 3-A.
Kayla Yorko led the way for the Rockets (5-0, 10-1) with 16 points. Nikki Venick and Erin Confortini each poured in 10. The Rockets outscored Cal, 13-7, in the final eight minutes to put the game away.
Bailey Vig scored 13 points for for Cal (4-1, 6-5), which trailed 19-15.
Peters Township 58, West Allegheny 53: Alyssa Konopka and Madison Kerr combined for all 17 of Peters Township decisive third-quarter points to help the Indians defeat West Allegheny, 58-53, in a Section 4-AAAA game.
Konopka, who had 18 points, sored 11 in the quarter and Kerr, who had a game-high 25, chipped in six to help Peters Township (4-1, 10-1) grab an eight-point lead. The Indians held off a fourth-quarter rally to secure their sixth consecutive win.
West Allegheny (0-5, 4-6), which had 18 points in the fourth quarter, was led by Melina Lynn’s 17 points.
Canon-McMillan 48, Mt. Lebanon 40: Cheyenne Trest scored 14 points as Canon-McMillan picked up a big road win in Section 4-AAAA, beating Mt. Lebanon, 48-40.
Kierra King added 11 points for the Big Macs (4-1, 7-4), who led 20-16 at the half before going on a 13-5 run in the third quarter.
Katie Sramac scored 14 points to lead Mt. Lebanon (2-3, 3-6).
Ringgold 38, Elizabeth Forward 18: Ringgold limited visiting Elizabeth Forward to five second half points as the Rams stayed unbeaten in Section 4-AAA with a 38-18 win.
Ashley Briscoe had 12 points, Bailey Cooper 11 and Johnna Mosniak had 10 rebounds for the Rams (5-0, 7-4).
Seirra Dawson had 11 points to pace EF (2-2, 6-6).
Trinity 60, Quaker Valley 36: Mary Dunn scored 12 of her 22 points in a first half in which Trinity ran out to a 34-8 lead to lead the Hillers to a 60-36 Section 5-AAA win over Quaker Valley.
Sierra Kotchman added 16 points for the Hillers (3-1, 8-2).
Aria Alston-Smith had 17 points for Quaker Valley (1-4, 4-7), while Alana Davidson scored 13.
South Fayette 60, Montour 33: Emily Anderson’s 17 points and a 21-0 run to open the game led South Fayette to a 60-33 Section 5-AAA win over Montour.
Mikayla Fetchet added 13 points and Sam Kosmacki had 11 for the Lions (4-0, 8-1).
Courtney Thomas paced Montour (1-3, 5-6) with 18 points.
Fort Cherry 46, Mapletown 23: Hannah Greene had 16 points and Fort Cherry bolted out to a 12-0 lead as the Rangers defeated Mapletown, 46-23, in a Section 3-A game.
The Rangers (2-3, 3-8) led 22-10 at the half and put the game away in the third quarter with a 16-6 run.
Kayla Smith led the Maples (1-4, 2-9) with nine points.
Chartiers-Houston 64, Wilkinsburg 14: Chartiers-Houston cruised to a 41-7 halftime lead en route to a 64-14 Section 3-AA win over Wilkinsburg.
Jala Walker scored 16 points and Cassidy Stollar added 14 for the Bucs (3-1, 10-2).
Destinee Herring led Wilkinsburg (0-4, 0-10) with nine points.
Steel Valley 57, Burgettstown 47: Steel Valley led 29-15 at the half and made that advantage hold up in a 57-47 Section 3-AA victory over Burgettstown.
Morgan Farah led a balanced scoring attack for Steel Valley (2-2, 3-9) with 10 points.
Katie Tarr scored 21 points and Kacie Prasko had 19 for Burgettstown (1-3, 7-4).
Avella 47, Monessen 20: Grace Lengauer scored 14 points and helped Avella to a 47-20 victory over Monessen in a Section 3-A game.
Kodi Georgetti chipped in with 12 points for the Eagles (2-3, 4-6), who led 28-7 at halftime.
Lashaundra Gillaspie paced Monessen (0-5, 1-10) with 11 points.
Chartiers Valley 68, McGuffey 32: A 21-6 run in the third quarter gave Chartiers Valley a 68-32 victory over McGuffey in a Section 5-AAA.
Mackenzie Wagner led the way for CV (3-2, 5-6) with 19 points. Angelina Dipardo added 14.
Katie Demi led the Highlanders (0-4, 1-10) with 23 points.
Beth-Center 33, Carmichaels 31: Kinlee Whited scored 21 points, including 17 at the free throw line, to pace Beth-Center to a 33-31 win over Carmichaels in a Section 4-AA game.
Beth-Center (1-3, 3-6) hit 19 of 23 free throws.
Megan Walker paced Carmichaels ( 1-3, 4-8) with 12 points.
Frazier 45, Waynesburg 43: Frazier held off a fourth-quarter run by Waynesburg to take a 45-43 victory in a Section 4-AA game.
Jovanna Isaac scored 11 points for the Commodores (3-1, 6-5), who were outscored 25-21 after taking a 24-18 halftime lead.
Celine Monica had a game-high 25 points for Waynesburg (2-3, 4-6) and Kirsten Garber added 14.
West Greene 72, Geibel Catholic 27: McKenna Lampe scored 25 points as West Greene defeated Geibel Catholic, 72-27, in a Section 3-A game.
Madison Lampe added 17 points for the Pioneers (4-1, 9-2).
Grace Nowicki had 16 points for Geibel (2-3, 3-7).
