Girls basketball: Ringgold’s Briscoe too much for Charleroi

Ashley Briscoe had a double-double and Ringgold used its height advantage to defeat visiting Charleroi 61-51 in a non-section game.

Briscoe scored 28 points, all on 14 field goals. She also grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Rams’ inside game. Bailey Cooper followed with 16 points and Taylor Mendicino had 10 for the Rams (8-4), who have won three in a row.

Maria Claybaugh paced Charleroi (9-3) with 16 points and Kaitlyn Riley had 13. The Cougars have lost two in a row.

Belle Vernon 56, Laurel Highlands 51: Kelsey Green had 16 points and Belle Vernon made 21 free throws to defeat Laurel Highlands, 56-51, in a non-section game.

Caitlyn Trombley chipped in 14 points for the Leopards (4-7), who made 21 of 34 free throws and overcame an eight-point first quarter.

The Mustangs (7-7) got 15 points from Ashley Galderisi and made just 14 of 30 free throws. They scored only six third-quarter points.
