Rice’s triple-double helps Monessen win
Justice Rice had a triple-double and Monessen used a 40-point third quarter to cruise to a 104-64 win over rival Clairton in a non-section game Wednesday night at the Bear Den.
Rice, a junior guard, had a game-high 33 points with 11 assists, 10 rebounds and eight steals. The Greyhounds (9-3), who eclipsed the 100-point mark for the third time this season, got 28 points from Dwight Moore and made 23 of 34 free throws. Monessen led 41-29 at halftime before scorign 73 second-half points.
Youri Myers had 22 points for the Bears (6-1).
Carmichaels 80, Mapletown 26: Alex Hoy scored 28 points and made eight of Carmichaels’ 17 three-point field goals as the Mikes cruised to an 80-26 victory over visiting Mapletown in a non-section game.
Hoy scored 19 of his points in the first quarter, when Carmichaels (7-4) built a 26-8 advantage. The Mikes led 48-15 at halftime.
Chris McAfee was the only other Carmichaels to reach double figures as he scored 12 points. The Mikes had 11 players score at least two points. Alix Gennette scored 11 points for Mapletown (0-11).
California 67, Frazier 45: California scored 37 second-half points to defeat Frazier, 67-45, in a non-section game at home.
Ben Wilson had a career-high 18 points for the Trojans (8-3), who outscored Frazier 19-11 in the fourth quarter. Johnny DeFranco chipped in 11 points and Kass Taylor had 5 for Cal.
Damon Lovis led the Commodores (6-6) with 10 points.
South Fayette 53, Seton-La Salle 49: Cam Garland and Rhyan Culberson combined for 25 points to help South Fayette defeat Seton-La Salle 53-49 in a non-section game at home.
Garland and 14 points and Culberson 11 for the Lions (5-3), who forged an eight-point lead at the half and held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Rebels. George Mike led Seton-La Salle (5-6).
