Ringgold pulls out OT win at West Mifflin

Seth Cooper made two free throws with four seconds left in overtime Friday night and Ringgold pulled out a thrilling 68-67 road victory over West Mifflin in Section 4-AAA.

The win pulled Ringgold even in section play at 3-3 and 7-5 overall. West Mifflin fell to 4-2, 6-4.

West Mifflin used a frantic comeback to force overtime. Ringgold led by five points with less than a minute to play but committed two turnovers, one that led to a West Mifflin basket and another to a game-tying three-pointer by the Titans, who made 11 shots from behind the arc.

Ringgold led 67-66 when Cooper sank two free throws. Ringgold then fouled West Mifflin to prevent the Titans from attempting another three-pointer. The Titans made one free throw before intentionally missing the second attempt in hope of getting the rebound but time expired.

Dakota Browning led Ringgold with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Pampena also scored 19, and George Martin had a big game with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Karlyn Garner led West Mifflin with 29 points and Ken Rouse-Strothers had 21.

Charleroi 71, Bentworth 19: John Arnold scored 20 points and registered the second triple-double by a Mon Valley area player this week as Charleroi cruised to a 71-19 victory over visiting Bentworth in Section 4-AA.

Arnold, a 6-7 senior, also had 12 rebounds and 11 blocked shots. He matched Monessen’s Lavalle Rush, who had a triple-double Tuesday night against West Greene.

The win keeps Charleroi (5-1, 9-3) on the heels of section leader Brownsville. The Cougars held Bentworth (0-5, 3-9) to only three points in the first half. Charleroi led 25-3 after one quarter and then shut out the Bearcats in the second quarter en route to a 48-3 lead.

Charleroi had players score in double figures. Sam Miceli tossed in 15 points, Errict Tedrow had 12 and Brock Shannon 10.

Washington 66, Carlynton 36: Nate Swart scored 23 points and Washington played a strong first half to roll over Carlynton 66-36 in Section 3-AA.

Wash High (5-1, 7-5) led 23-5 after one quarter. Swart scored seven of his points in the first quarter and Isaiah Robinson scored 10 of his 14 points in the opening eight minutes.

The Prexies stretched their lead to 36-17 at halftime and cruised in the second half.

The Prexies put four players in double figures. Markel Pulliam scored 12 points and Matt Popeck finished with 11. Carlynton (3-3, 7-5) did not have a player in double figures.

Monessen 102, Mapletown 34: Dwight Moore led four Monessen players in double figures with 23 points and Section 3-A co-leader Monessen cruised to a 102-34 victory over winless Mapletown.

Monessen (5-0, 10-3) led 45-0 after one quarter, the second time in section play that the Greyhounds had blanked an opponent in the opening eight minutes. The Greyhounds led 69-4 at halftime.

Justic Rice scored 20 points, Lavalle Rush had 18 points and Jaden Altomore finished with 15 for Monessen.

Mapletown (0-5, 0-12) which was outscored by only three points in the second half, received a career-high 12 points from Austin Herpak.

Bishop Canevin 64, Burgettstown 41: Mitchell King scored 18 points and Section 3-AA leader Bishop Canevin used a big first half to defeat host Burgettstown 64-41.

Bishop Canevin (5-0, 10-3) led 25-11 after one quarter and 40-23 by halftime. The Crusaders had only two players score in double figures. Walter Bonds finished with 14 points.

Burgettstown (1-6, 4-11) was held without a three-point basket. The Blue Devils did get 13 points from Bailey Soplinski.

Trinity 47, Montour 39: Trinity used a balanced scoring effort, tough defense and free throw shooting to defeat Montour, 47-39, in a Section 5-AAA game at Hiller Hall.

Joey Koroly had 13 points, while Saul Wells and Ben Phillis both chipped in 11 for the Hillers (3-2, 5-6), who led by 11 points at the end of the third quarter and made seven of nine free throws to hold off Montour. The Spartans (3-2, 7-4) got nine points from K.J. Rhodes.

Avella 69, Geibel Catholic 61: Cody Dobbin had a game-high 27 points and Avella scored 13 points in overtime to defeat Geibel Catholic, 69-61, in Section 3-A.

Kevin Painter had 14 points, Shawn Willard 12 and Austin Lis chipped in 10 for the Eagles (3-2, 4-8), who snapped a three-game losing streak by outscoring Geibel, 13-5, in overtime.

The Dragons (1-5, 2-9) tied the game with one of their 12 free throws late in regulation and were led by Bailey Miller’s 16 points.

Chartiers-Houston 72, Brentwood 48: Chartiers-Houston used a 37-point first half and allowed just seven second-quarter points to defeat Brentwood 72-48 in a Section 3-AA game at home.

AJ Myers had 20 points, while Cam Hanley and Andrew Clark both had 14 for the Bucs (2-4, 8-5), who led 37-18 at halftime and were 12 of 19 from the free throw line. Hanley also had 12 rebounds and five assists. DeAngelo Briscoe had 15 points for the Spartans (2-4, 3-8).

West Greene 82, Jefferson-Morgan 38: West Greene had three players eclipse the 20-point mark and used a 27-point second quarter to defeat Jefferson-Morgan, 82-38, in a Section 3-A game.

Craig Weaver had 23 points, Kolton Rush had a game-high 25 points and Nathan Brudnock 21 for the Pioneers (3-2, 6-6). Rush and Weaver both had 15 rebounds.

D.L. Garrett led the Rockets (1-4, 2-10) with 20 points.

Belle Vernon 46, Laurel Highlands 41: Belle Vernon scored 18 fourth-quarter points to complete a come-from-behind, 46-41, win over Laurel Highlands in a Section 4-AAA game.

Derek Thomas had 15 points and Brennan Morgan added 11 for the Leopards (2-4, 3-7), who trailed by 10 points at halftime after a four-point second quarter. Jake Swartz had 15 points for the Mustangs (3-3, 8-6).

South Fayette 74, McGuffey 46: Ryhan Culberson had a double-double and South Fayette used a 41-point second half to beat McGuffey 74-46 in a Section 5-AAA game.

Culberson had 23 points with 11 rebounds and six steals for the Lions (4-1, 6-3), who held the Highlanders to just 18 first-half points. Colin Chapman had 18 points and Shaun Sanders added 16 for McGuffey (0-5, 5-7).

Seton-La Salle 67, Fort Cherry 37: Seton-La Salle used two late first-half turnovers to forge a 13-point lead at halftime and held on for a 67-37 win over Fort Cherry in a Section 3-AA game.

The Rangers (0-6, 2-10) trailed by five points with 30 seconds remaining the second quarter, but back-to-back turnovers turned into five Seton points and the Rebels added 25 points in the third quarter to pull away for the win. Bill O’Malley led the Rebels (5-1, 6-6) with 12 points and Devon Brown had 15 for Fort Cherry.

Frazier 67, Carmichaels 47: Caleb and Josh Cox combined for 36 points to lead Frazier over Carmichaels, 67-47, in a Section 4-AA game.

Caleb Cox had a game-high 19 points and Josh Cox added 17 for the Commodoroes. Frazier (2-3, 7-6) held Carmichaels to just 16 first-half points and scored 37 in the second quarter. Blake Conard had 12 points for the Mikes (2-3, 7-5).

Bethel Park 82, Canon-McMillan 58: Bethel Park had three players score in double figures and held Canon-McMillan to just three second-quarter points on its way to a 82-58 win in a Section 4-AAAA game at home.

Jake Dixon lead the Black Hawks with 18 points and Josh Duda added 17. Bethel Park (3-3, 9-4) led by 18 points at halftime, had 12 different players score and had 49 points in the second half.

Britton Beachy had 14 points for the Big Macs (1-5, 6-7).

Brownsville 93, Beth-Center 61: Noah Brown scored a game-high 30 points to help Brownsville cruise to a 93-61 win over Beth-Center in a Section 4-AA game.

The Falcons (5-0, 9-3) led by 21 points at halftime before scoring 49 in the second half and had four players score in double figures. Bradey McDonnell led the Bulldogs (2-3, 5-4) with 13 points, while Luke Hess and Brennan Stanley both had 12.

Girls results

South Fayette 75, McGuffey 38: Jordan Caputo scored 20 points and South Fayette used a 40-point first half to defeat McGuffey, 75-38, in a Section 5-AAA game.

Emily Anderson added 17 points for South Fayette (5-0, 9-1), which led by 20 points at halftime and held McGuffey to just seven points in the fourth quarter. Katie Demi had 16 points for the Highlanders (0-5, 1-11).

Mapletown 47, Monessen 44: Abby Antill scored a game-high 18 points as Mapletown used a 19-point fourth quarter to defeat Monessen, 47-44, in a Section 3-A game. Kayla Smith added 10 points for the Maples (2-4, 3-9), who overcame a on-point deficit at halftime and making just 16 of 33 free throws. Lashaundria Gillaspie had 14 points for the Greyhounds (0-6, 1-11).
