Waynesburg women provide lone victory
Maura Bobby scored 22 points and Waynesburg used a big third quarter to rally for an 82-75 win at Bethany in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon.
Waynesburg (4-2, 6-7) trailed 33-28 at halftime but scored 35 third-quarter points to take a 10-point lead. Bobby scored 14 of her points in the third quarter, when Waynesburg made 15 of 20 shots from the field.
Addy Knetzer had her second consecutive big game for the Yellow Jackets, scoring 18 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Katie Gehlmann had 15 points.
Gabrielle Naples, with 19 points, led four players in double figures for Bethany (3-3, 5-8).
Seton Hill 83, California 81, OT:
You can say this for California: The Vulcans keep you in your seat until the end.
After losing on a buzzer-beater Sunday at East Stroudsburg, California rebounded to beat West Chester in overtime Wednesday. This time, overtime wasn’t so kind to Cal.
Seton Hill’s Alexandra Hay made a three-pointer as time expired in regulation to force overtime, and the Griffins made two free throws in the final 22 seconds of the extra period to upset California 83-81 in a PSAC game at the Convocation Center.
The game wasn’t decided until Cal’s Miki Glenn, who scored acareer-high 32 points, missed a desperation three-pointer with one second remaining in overtime.
Cal (7-3, 9-4) led 39-30 at halftime but Seton Hill (5-5, 9-7) shot 57 percent from the field after halftime and outscored Cal 10-2 to start the third quarter.
Glenn, who converted all of her 11 free-throw attempts, made four in the final 21 seconds of regulation to give Cal a 70-67 lead with 12 seconds to play. The three-pointer by Hay, who scored 13 points, forced overtime.
The Vulcans led 79-76 with 1:35 left but Seton Hill scored seven of the game’s final nine points, including a go-ahead free throw by Jenna Kaufman with 22 seconds to play.
Precious Martin scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Cal. Seairra Barrett had 11 points.
Mariah Wells led five Seton Hill players in double figures with 16 points.
Thomas More 103, Wash & Jeff 56: Defending Division III national champion and No. 1-ranked Thomas More had too much Madison Temple and Sydney Moss for Washington & Jefferson as the Saints cruised to a 103-56 homecourt win over the Presidents in a game matching the top two teams in the PAC.
Temple scored 23 points and Moss had another stellar all-around game with 22 points, nine assists and six steals in only 21 minutes of playing time.
Thomas More improves to 6-0 in the PAC and 12-0 overall. W&J (5-1, 10-2) suffered its first conference loss and had its three-game winning streak end.
The Saints shot 51 percent from the field in the first half and forged a 57-24 lead at halftime. Alexa Santamaria scored 13 points for Thomas More, which 13 three-pointers.
Rachel Belly came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points for W&J. Danielle Parker scored 10 points.
Men’s results
Thomas More 101, Wash & Jeff 66: Thomas More made 18 three-pointers and put five players in double figures as the saints defeated visiting Washington & Jefferson 101-66 in a PAC game.
Thomas More (5-1, 8-5) made 18 of 35 three-pointers to keep W&J (0-6, 0-13) winless.
Brandon Horne led Thomas More with 20 points and Daniel Williams had 18 points on six three-pointers.
Brian Graytok paced W&J with 13 points, Christian Rohaus scored 11, and Joe Satira and Brian Lindquist each had 10.
Bethany 84, Waynesburg 73: Calique Jones scored 19 points and triggered a pivotal 8-0 run in the second half as Bethany pulled away for an 84-73 win over visiting Waynesburg in a PAC game.
Bethany (4-2, 8-5) led 39-37 at halftime and the game remained close until Bethany’s 8-0 run – four points by Jones — gave the Bison a 69-59 lead with less than seven minutes remaining. Waynesburg never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.
D.J. Ritchie led Waynesburg (2-4, 2-11) with 19 points and was 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. Dylan O’Hara, Nate Labishak and Jon Knab each had 10 points.
Seton Hill 72, California 60: Trevor Blondin led four Seton Hill players in double figures with 18 points and the Griffins deal California its fourth straight PSAC loss, 72-60.
It was the fourth win in five games for Seton Hill (4-6, 6-8). The Griffins led 43-35 at halftime but Cal used a 15-4 run to close to within 53-52 in the second half. Seton Hill scored the next seven points and Cal (3-7, 5-10) never threatened again.
Nick Miller came off the bench and scored a team-high 15 points for Cal. Khalil Jabbie had 14 points.
