Vulcans make season-high 12 3-pointers in rout
CALIFORNIA – Sophomores Luka Andjusic and Nick Miller combined for 37 points, including 10 three-pointers, as California University rolled to a 92-59 victory over Penn State-Greater Allegheny in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
California, which lost a PSAC West Division game at Slippery Rock less than 24 hours earlier, improves to 7-11 overall. Greater Allegheny falls to 7-7 and had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Andjusic scored a game-high 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting, including 5 of 8 from three-point range. He also had seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Andjusic has three 20-point games in his first season with Cal.
Miller established a career high with 17 points, 5 of 7 from behind the three-point line. He is shooting 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from three-point range since moving into the starting lineup Jan. 9.
Cal senior Richard Smith scored 14 points with six rebounds. Senior point guard Khalil jabbie had seven assists.
The Vulcans opened the game on a 15-2 run, making six of their first eight shots. Greater Allegheny cut the deficit to 19-12 with 13:50 left in the first half, but Cal responded with a 13-2 run, including eight-unanswered points, to build a 32-14 lead and the game was never again close. The Vulcans led 47-26 at halftime.
Cal shot 57 percent and made a season-high 12 three-pointers.
Jordon Payne and Curtis Newby each scored 14 points for Greater Allegheny and Jeremy McMunn came off the bench to contribute 11 points.
Cal outrebounded Greater Allegheny 48-27.
