Maples clinch spot in team tournament
MAPLETOWN – Mapletown clinched a spot in the team tournament for the first time since resurrecting the program in 2011, beating Bentworth, 42-39, in a Section 2-A Class AA wrestling match Wednesday night.
Shawn Hennesset and Harley Gee had pins for the Maples (3-2, 10-9), who locked up the third spot in the sub-section.
Chad Gurdish and Ryan Wise had falls for Bentworth.
Canon-McMillan 55, Moon 19: Canon-McMillan overwhelmed Moon, 55-19, to stay unbeaten in Section 4-A Class AAA.
Justin Celento, Matt O’Block, Stefan Richer, Tommy James, Nick Konak and Brendan Fuhrman had pins for the Big Macs (4-0, 4-1), who also got technical falls from Logan Macri, Declan Lewis and Blaze Kansco.
Moon falls to 1-3, 5-4.
Beth-Center 39, Jeff-Morgan 34: Beth-Center picked up a forfeit and two pins to erase a 34-21 deficit in the final three bouts and beat Jefferson-Morgan, 39-34, in a Section 2-A Class AA match.
Bruce Leonard and Johnny Little had the pins at 152 and 160 to lift B-C (4-1, 4-1) to the win. Richard LaRosa also recorded a pin for the Bulldogs, who locked up second place in the sub-section.
Gavin Teasdale, Josh Agnew and Billy Bowlen had pins for the Rockets (1-3, 1-4).
South Fayette 60, South Park 15: South Fayette finished off its Section 1-A Class AA schedule unbeaten with a 60-15 win over South Park.
Jared Witwicki, Shane Geng, Mike Carr, Ben Previte, Christian Dedi amd Rashaun Culbertson had pins for the Lions (5-0, 13-5).
Jake Wensell and Greg Bulsak had pins for South Park (1-3, 1-3).
Freedom 52, Burgettstown 24: Freedom topped Burgettstown, 52-24, in a battle of Section 1-A Class AA unbeatens to wrap up the sub-section title.
Jacob Pail, Michael Muron, Cody Kamara, Bryson Miller and Randy Simmons had pins for Freedom (6-0, 10-1).
Austin Ryan, Tyler Nicholson and Nick Langston had falls for the Blue Devils (5-1, 5-1).
Burgettstown 57, Beaver 13: Burgettstown picked up six forfeits against Beaver to win a Section 1-Class AA match, 57-13.
Ethan Brothers and Austin Walters also had pins for the Blue Devils.
Beaver is 1-5, 1-5.
Chartiers-Houston 73, Washington 0: Chartiers-Houston finished off its Section 1-A Class AA schedule with a 73-0 shutout of Washington.
Ty Mazutis, Jake Piatt, Jake Ognibene, R.J. Hall, Drew Geray, Dom Provenzano, T.J. Johnston and Trey Rober had pins for the Bucs (4-1, 4-1).
Washington is 1-4, 1-4.
Fort Cherry 54, Avella 24: Fort Cherry took advantage of eight forfeit victories to get past Avella, 54-24, in a Section 1-A dual meet in Class AA.
The win locks up third place in the section for the Rangers, who also got a pin from Anthony Hettenschuller (138).
Waynesburg 55, Chartiers Valley 24: Waynesburg won the final seven bouts on the way to a 55-24 victory over Chartiers Valley in a Section 4-A dual meet in Class AAA.
Colby Morris (113), Caleb Morris (120), Cole Rush (120), Logan Henderson (126), Shaun Wilson (138) and Terry Victor (152) each won by fall for the Raiders (3-1, 13-3), who finished second in the subsection.
Zach Macy (106), Phil Pesano (170), Sal DiBacco (195) and Dan McGeough (220) had pins for Chartiers Valley (0-4, 2-8).
McGuffey 66, West Greene 7: McGuffey had 10 forfeit wins on the way to a 66-7 victory over West Greene in a Section 2-A match in Class AA.
Teague Nicolella (132) had a pin for the Highlanders (5-0, 11-2). Connor Main had a major decision for West Greene (0-4, 1-9) at 195 pounds.
