Boys basketball: Beachy scores 30 in Canon-McMillan victory
Junior Britton Beachy scored 30 points Thursday night and Canon-McMillan rode a huge second quarter to a 75-53 victory over visiting Moon in Section 4-AAAA.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Canon-McMillan (2-8, 7-10). Moon (2-8, 6-11) has lost seven in a row.
Moon led 16-14 after one quarter but Canon-Mac took control in the next eight minutes, outscoring Moon 25-5 in the quarter to take an 18-point lead into halftime. Moon never seriously threatened the rest of the way.
Beachy’s 30 points came on 12 field goals and 6-for-6 shooting at the free-throw line. He was one of three Big Macs in double figures. Jake Davey scored 18 points and R.J. Bell had 12.
Jared Smith scored 15 points for Moon and Max Hurley had 14. The Tigers made 11 three-pointers and only six two-point baskets.
West Greene 72, Mapletown 25: Craig Weaver had 18 points and West Greene raced out to a 22-0 first quarter lead en route to a 72-25 Section 3-A win over Mapletown.
Kolton Rush added 17 points and Nathan Brudnock had 13 for the Pioneers (5-2, 9-6).
Alex Gennette led Mapletown (0-9, 0-16) with 12 points.
In other games: Brownsville defeated visiting Jefferson-Morgan 93-28 in a non-section boys game. No details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
