Rare feat for Kotchman in Trinity’s win
Sierra Kotchman accomplished a rare feat Thursday night.
The 5-6 junior guard scored 25 points to help Trinity defeat Quaker Valley, 67-36, in a Section 5-AAA game.
Those points sent Kotchman over the 1,000-point mark, giving her 1,008 for her career. The rare part of this is she became the first mother-daughter team in Trinity’s program to each pass that milestone. Jackie Kotchman was a 1,000-point scorer for the Hillers.
Sierra Kotchman passed 1,000 points when she sank a three-pointer in the third quarter.
“”Since she was a freshman, it didn’t take long for her to get off the bench and become a starter,” said Trinity head coach Bob Miles. “She helped us become successful. Her points are against (good teams). Our exhibition games have been competitive. This is a nice accomplishment for her.”
Delaney Elling had 10 points for the Hillers (8-2, 14-3).
Aria Alton-Smith led Quaker Valley (3-8, 7-12) with 18 points.
Elizabeth Forward 56, Ringgold 44: A 16-5 run in the second quarter paved the way for Elizabeth Forward’s 56-44 victory over Ringgold in a Section 4-AAA game.
Sierra Dawson scored 15 points and Brianna Spirnam 11 for EF (4-6, 8-10).
Ashley Brisco scored a game-high 18 for Ringgold (8-3, 11-7).
Canon-McMillan 62, Mt. Lebanon 55: Cheyenne Trest scored 13 of Canon-McMillan’s 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Big Macs remained in first place in Section 4-AAAA with a 62-55 come-from-behind win over Mt. Lebanon.
Trest had 24 points and Canon-McMillan (10-2, 13-5) rallied from a 46-43 deficit entering the fourth quarter to get the victory. Becca Turney added 16 points and Izzy Allen had 11 for the winners.
Katie Sramac scored 23 points for Mt. Lebanon (8-4, 10-8) which also got 18 points from Kenzie Bushee.
Peters Township 68, West Allegheny 41: Madison Kerr’s 20 points led Peters Township past West Allegheny, 68-41, in a Section 4-AAAA game.
Makenna Marisa added 14 points for the Indians (9-3, 16-3), who host first-place Canon-McMillan on Saturday.
Rebecca Turner scored 16 points to lead West Allegheny (2-10, 8-12).
Beth-Center 46, Carmichaels 40: Kinlee Whited scored 14 of Beth-Center’s 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs rallied for an 11-point second-half deficit to beat Carmichaels, 46-40, in a Section 4-AA game.
The Mikes (1-9, 4-15) opened the second half with a 15-0 run to take an 11-point lead, but Beth-Center (5-5, 7-9) finished the game on a 26-9 run, keyed by Whited, who scored 24 points.
Kennedy Kuhns added 11 points in the winning effort.
Megan Walker had 12 points and Kaitlyn Wilson 10 for Carmichaels.
Brownsville 61, Belle Vernon 36: Maris Seto scored 25 points and Alie Seto added 15 as Brownsville downed Belle Vernon, 61-36, in a Section 4-AAA game.
Kelsey Green had 13 points and 14 rebounds for Belle Vernon.
Chartiers Valley 77, McGuffey 20: Mackenzie Wagner and Lauren Wagner had 18 and 17 points, respectively, as Chartiers Valley topped McGuffey, 77-20, in a Section 5-AAA game.
Nicole Osky chipped in 11 points for the Colts (7-4, 11-8), who outscored the Highlanders (0-10, 1-18) 47-9 in the second half.
Katie Demi scored nine points for McGuffey.
Frazier 57, Waynesburg 33: Brooke Polling scored 20 points as Frazier ran past Waynesburg, 57-33, in a Section 4-AA game.
Emily Marshall chipped in 11 points for the Commodores (7-2, 10-7).
Kirsten Garber and Rachel Elsenheimer had eight points each for Waynesburg (4-7, 6-11), which saw its playoff hopes put in jeopardy with the loss.
Avella 50, Clairton 34: Kodi Gossett’s 15 points led Avella to a 50-34 non-section win over Clairton.
Grace Lengauer added 12 points for the Eagles (8-10).
Katreena Payne had a game-high 19 points for Clairton (0-20).
Fort Cherry 34, Mapletown 29: Fort Cherry rallied from a first-quarter deficit to defeat Mapletown, 34-29, in a Section 3-A game.
Shannon Relihan and Mackenzie Garry each scored 12 points for the Rangers (2-8, 3-14), who trailed 11-4 after the first eight minutes.
Kayla Smith scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds for the Maples (2-8, 3-14). Kelsi Smith grabbed 12 rebounds.
Steel Valley 52, Burgettstown 37: Morgan Farrah scored 17 points to lead Steel Valley past Burgettstown, 52-37, in a Section 3-AA game.
Katie Giovanni added 13 points for Steel Valley (3-8, 4-14), which led 19-12 at halftime.
Kacie Prasko led Burgettstown (2-7, 10-9) with 11 points.
Chartiers-Houston 64, Wilkinsburg 21: A 24-1 first quarter run allowed Chartiers-Houston to breeze to a 64-21 win over Wilkinsburg in a Section 3-AA game.
Jordan Simpson led the charge with 18 points for the Bucs (7-3, 14-5). Jules Vulcano poured in 13 and Madison Simpson and Jessica Southern each scored 11.
Seriah Ramsey led Wilkinsburg (0-10, 0-18) with 11 points.
West Greene 63, Geibel 28: McKenna Lampe scored a career-high 39 points to power West Greene to a 63-28 victory over Geibel in a Section 3-A game.
Madison Lampe chipped in 10 for the Pioneers (9-3, 15-4), who led 33-10 at halftime.
Gilliam Yourish paced the Gators (3-8, 5-12) with 11 points.

Jamir Fletcher added 12 points and Dylan Smith had 10 for Steel Valley (9-2, 13-3).
Dakota Browning paced Ringgold (3-7, 7-9) with 18 points.
