Greyhounds overcome slow start, knock off Ambridge

Dwight Moore scored 28 points and Monessen overcame a slow start to beat Ambridge, 80-52, in a non-section high school boys basketball game Saturday at the Pittsburgh Classic at Montour.

Justice Rice had a triple double, scoring 15 points with 12 assists and 11 rebounds, and Jaden Altomore and Lavalle Rush also had 15 points each for the Greyhounds (17-3). Rush also had 12 rebounds.

Monessen trailed 20-14 after one quarter, but erased that lead with a 26-11 run in the second quarter.

Darius Lawrence led Ambridge (9-10) with 19 points.

Peters Township 85, Keystone Oaks 67: Nick Valentic had 26 points and Ben Doyle had 22 as Peters Township defeated Keystone Oaks, 85-67 in a non-section game.

Ben Doyle added 11 points for the Indians (12-7), who pulled away with a 29-14 second-quarter run.

Jake Wilson scored 20 points, Josh Snell had 16 and Nick Hrivank 10 for Keystone Oaks (5-14).

Butler 71, South Fayette 61: Kaden Rock’s 17 points helped Butler pull away from South Fayette, 71-61, in a non-section game.

Connor Ollio added 16 points and Joel Stutz had 14 for Butler (14-5), which finished the game on a 20-10 run.

Ryhan Culbertson scored 17 points, while Carmeron Garland and Noah Plack had 16 each for South Fayette (10-8).

Uniontown 63, Belle Vernon 48: Lorenzo Odom’s 24 points helped Uniontown hold off Belle Vernon, 63-48, in a Section 4-AAA game. Phil Mosley added 14 points for Uniontown (5-7, 7-10), which led just 34-31 at the half.

Joey Sabolek and J.J. Hartman had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Belle Vernon (4-8, 7-12).

Oak Hill Academy 69, First Love Christian Academy 46: Junior guard Lindell Wigginton scored a game-high 25 points to help perennial powerhouse Oak Hill Academy sink First Love, 69-46, in Mouth of Wilson, Va.

Wigginton, who has scholarship offers from six Division I programs, helped the Warriors (29-1) outscore First Love 28-8 in the fourth quarter. Braxton Key, an Alabama recruit, added 15 points. The Knights (16-3) were only losing 41-38 at the end of the third and were led by senior forward Prince Oduro, who had 12 poitns and eight rebounds. Oak Hill was ranked fourth in the country in USA Today’s latest Power 25 boys basketball rankings.

Ringgold 51, Brooke, W.Va. 43: Sophomore forward Ashley Briscoe scored a career-high 36 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Ringgold topped Brooke, W.Va., in a non-section high school girls game, 51-43.

Briscoe, who sat out part of the first quarter after injuring her ankle, had 23 of the Rams’ 32 points in the second half. Ringgold (12-7) trailed 22-19 at the half, but held a 32-21 advantage in the final two quarters.

Payge Farmer scored 11 points to lead Brooke (3-13).
