Rebellion hold on for 3-2 win
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Rebellion jumped out to an early lead against the Chicago Bandits Friday night, almost fumbled it toward the end, but held on for a 3-2 victory in a National Pro Fastpitch softball game.
Alexa Peterson gave the Rebellion (11-17) a lead that would remain for the rest of play when she scored in the first inning after doubling with two outs. An inning later, the gap over the Bandits (11-16) widened, thanks to back-to-back solo home runs by bottom-of-the-lineup hitters Chaley Brickey and Cheyenne Cordes.
Starting pitcher Dallas Escobedo contained the Bandits for 5 1/3 shutout innings, allowing four hits, striking out two and walking a pair.
After relief pitcher Haylie Wagner retired the first two batters in the bottom of the seventh, she gave up a walk, a double and Andrea Filler’s two-run single.
Wagner induced a game-ending groundout to escape before the Bandits could complete the comeback.
