SALISBURY, Md. – The Pennsylvania Rebellion couldn’t maintain an early lead Wednesday night, falling 5-4 to the Akron Racers.

Sami Fagan broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh with a solo home run for Akron, which also scored four runs in the top of the third to erase a 2-0 deficit.

Lindsey Stephens put the Rebellion ahead in the bottom of the second inning, when she singled home Kristyn Sandberg. Stephens would double that lead later in the inning, scoring on a Cheyenne Cordes single.

Akron (16-11) responded quickly, plating four runs the third inning. That advantage would last until the fifth, as the Rebellion (11-20) tied the score with a Mandy Ogle double that scored Alexa Peterson. Ogle finished the contest having gone 3-for-4 with the one RBI.

As happened the first time, though, Akron answered the Rebellion’s offensive output, regaining the lead definitively in the top of the seventh.

Rebellion pitcher Emily Weiman took the loss in a relief appearance. Weiman came in for Madison Osias to start the fourth inning. Weiman gave up just two hits and one earned run, but it proved to be the game’s last.

Rain delayed the start of the game by more than an hour.
