Fraudin pitches Wild Things to win
FLORENCE, Ky. – Matt Fraudin won his third consecutive decision with seven strong innings and Grant Fink hit a two-run homer as the Wild Things defeated the Florence Freedom, 4-1, Sunday night at UC Health Stadium.
The win pushes Washington (32-31) back above the .500 mark. The Wild Things remain in second place in the Frontier League’s East Division.
Fraudin (5-4) allowed one run and struck out five.
Washington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Andrew Heck, who had three hits, scored on a wild pitch by Florence starter Jordan Kraus (4-7). The score remained 1-0 until the seventh, when the Freedom’s Mason Salazar drew a leadoff walk, advanced on a bunt and scored on two wild pitches by Fraudin.
The Wild Things took a 2-1 lead in the eighth when Austin Wobrock walked, moved to third on Heck’s hit-and-run single and scored on a wild pitch. Fink hit his two-run homer in the ninth. It was Fink’s sixth home run of the season.
Zac Grotz, who pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for a win Saturday, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 10th save.
