PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Gerrit Cole and catcher Francisco Cervelli both left Friday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals because of undisclosed injuries.

Cole was removed in the third inning after giving up a leadoff single to Matt Carpenter. Cervelli then exited in the fourth after swinging at the first pitch of his at-bat from Michael Wacha.

Cole was relieved by AJ Schugel after not allowing a run in two-plus innings. He gave up two hits and one walk while walking three.

Chris Stewart pinch hit for Cervelli and remained in the game at catcher.
