Wild Things hits 3 homers, zap T-bolts
Jimmy Yezzo drove in four runs and hit one of Washington’s three home runs as the Wild Things defeated the Windy City Thunderbolts, 8-6, Saturday night at Consol Energy Park.
After Windy City took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Coco Johnson, Yezzo hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first and the Wild Things led the rest of the way.
Yezzo’s run-scoring single in the fourth inning made it 4-2. Bryan Haar hit his team-leading seventh home run of the season in the fifth to push Washington’s lead to 6-3.
Windy City pulled to within 6-5 in the seventh but relief pitcher Devon Davis entered the game and worked out of a jam with the help of a double play. The Wild Things scored in the seventh when Ricky Rodriguez raced home when David Popkins was caught in a rundown, and Logan Uxa hit a solo homer in the eighth.
Sam Agnew-Wieland (2-0) was the winning pitcher in relief. Zac Grotz pitched two innings for his fifth save.
