Kuebel shuts down Wild Things
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Sasha Kuebel pitched six strong innings and the Traverse City bullpen held the Washington Wild Things to one hit over the final three innings to secure a 3-1 victory Thursday night in a Frontier League game.
Traverse City snapped the two-game winning streak of Washington, moving to 11-24. The Wild Things fell to 19-16.
Kuebel’s only run allowed came in the top of the first inning when Jamal Austin opened the game with a single and Ricky Rodriguez walked. Bryan Harr singled to load the bases and David Popkins brought home Austin with a sacrifice fly. Kuebel got Jimmy Yezzo to ground into a fielder’s choice and Nick Ferdinand to bounce back to the mound to end the inning.
Traverse City tied the game with a run in the fourth, then added single runs in the seventh and eighth. Casey Rodrigue doubled to open the fourth, stole third base and scored when Jose Vargas singled.
In the seventh, Kendall Patrick smashed a solo home run, his second of the season, to give Traverse City a 2-1 lead.
Steven Patterson drove in a run in the bottom of the eighth with a single to score Will Kengor, who walked and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Washington loaded the bases in the sixth but Kuebel struck out Grant Fink to get out of the jam.
