Rohaley was one of the keys to the Big Macs’ second-half surge that saw them make the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs and advance to the semifinals. He won seven of his first nine decisions and ended the year with a 7-4 record and 1.74 ERA. He allowed only 38 hits in 66 innings pitched. The sophomore right-hander had two double-digit strikeout games, including 16 against Upper St. Clair. He threw a complete game with six strikeouts in C-M’s 5-1 victory over second-seeded Pine-Richland in the playoffs. At the plate, Rohaley batted .306 and had five game-winning RBI in Canon-Mac’s 14 victories, including a bases-loaded double in the 14th inning of a win at Peters Township.
Talented two-way led all WPIAL pitchers in wins during the regular season, finishing with a 9-1 record with a 1.67 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 46 innings. He issued only six walks. Was a key hitter in the middle of the Trojans’ potent lineup with 26 runs and 20 RBI to go with a .415 batting average. Was 18-for-18 in stolen-base attempts.
One of the best pitchers in Class AA, Fisher turned the Cougars from ordinary to excellent when he was on the mound. His 4-4 record was a bit deceiving. One of the losses was a 1-0 setback against top-seeded Neshannock in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs. Fisher led the WPIAL in strikeouts during the regular season with 85 – 10 more than any other Class AA pitcher.
Middle infielder was the leadoff hitter for Belle Vernon’s team that went 16-5. Batted .416 with a .997 OPS. Led the Leopards with 32 hits and 24 runs. Had a 4-for-4 game against South Park. Went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the Leopards’ playoff loss to WPIAL Class AAA champion Chartiers Valley.
Led the Bearcats to a second-place finish in Section 1-A as a shortstop and pitcher. A .300 hitter, Mitchell threw one of the best games by a local pitcher all season when he went 8 1/3 innings and gave up only three singles – two in the ninth inning – against eventual state champion Vincentian Academy in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs.
The shortstop helped Peters Township to the Class AAAA playoffs by leading the Indians with 29 hits and seven doubles while batting .420. The Indians’ leadoff hitter, Mundy was second on the team with 17 RBI and stole eight bases. Had 1.106 OPS.
The senior was the leader of the Big Macs team that finished 14-9 and fourth in the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs. The Ohio University recruit was the Canon-McMillan’s leading hitter with a .431 batting average and 19 RBI. Excellent defensive catcher who handled a young pitching staff and threw out 90 percent of opposing basestealers, a number that is off-the-charts, even by high school standards. Threw out all four potential basestealers during the playoffs.
Two-way player developed into Peters Township’s best pitcher. Had a 4-1 record and 2.53 ERA pitching at the Class AAAA level. Threw a complete-game shutout as Peters Township defeated Fox Chapel 1-0 in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs. Batted .320.
The junior is perhaps the most dangerous hitter in the area. A Coastal Carolina recruit, Schnert batted .474 against a challenging Class AAAA schedule and led the WPIAL with eight home runs. He finished third in the WPIAL with 29 RBI during the regular season and stole 10 bases. Had an OPS of 1.527.
The lefty first baseman was one of the most improved players in the area this season. His .543 batting average led all local hitters and ranked eighth in the WPIAL.
The speedy outfielder gave opponents fits with his athleticism and hitting ability. Had a team-high .500 batting average and hit five doubles and three triples.
Smooth-fielding shortstop batted .423 and was the triggerman for Cal’s potent lineup from the leadoff spot in the batting order. Stole 13 bases.
A first baseman-pitcher, Hess was a strong hitter in the middle of the Big Macs’ batting order. He batted .380 with 18 RBI for a team that finished fourth in Class AAAA in the WPIAL. Was 4-for-4 with five RBI in a win over South Fayette.
The senior right-hander was the workhorse of the Carmichaels pitching staff, posting a 4-2 record in the regular season with one of the setbacks a 2-1 loss to playoff-bound Bentworth. Led all Class A pitchers with 59 strikeouts and was seventh in the WPIAL. Is a recruit of Goldey-Beacom College, an NCAA Division II school in Wilmington, Del., that will be playing its first season of baseball in 2017.
Another two-way threat, Robinson was a .300 hitter for the Raiders and became the team’s top pitcher. Had 68 strikeouts, which ranked second among all Class AA pitchers and fourth overall in the WPIAL.
Junior helped South Fayette make the Class AAA playoffs by posting a 5-2 pitching record with a 2.72 ERA. Struck out 52 batters in 50 innings. Batted .322 and was second on the team in runs.
Opposing pitchers had all kinds of trouble with West, who batted .455 with 14 RBI, three triples and three doubles.
Speedy top-of-the-order hitter was big reason the Bucs won 14 games, advanced to the Class AA playoffs and averaged six runs per game. Had a strong first half of the season and hit safely in 10 of Bucs’ first 11 games with five multiple-hit games. Batted .309 for the season with 11 stolen bases.
The Leopards’ cleanup hitter, Zilka batted .380 and was second on the team with 18 RBI. Struck out only three times in 71 at-bats. Had a .999 OPS.
