SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Washington Wild Things scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning, then held off a furious Schaumburg rally in the bottom of the inning to come away with a 5-4 victory in a Frontier League game.

The Wild Things raised their record to 20-18, snapping a three-game losing streak. Schaumburg (21-18) saw a five-game winning streak snapped.

The two teams combined for more runs in the 11th inning, five, than in the first 10. Schaumburg held a 2-0 lead after scoring runs in the sixth and seventh, but Washington tied it and sent it into extra innings by scoring one run in the eighth and ninth innings.

The International Tiebreaker system was triggered in the 11th, meaning each half inning begins with a runner on second base. In this case, Ricky Rodriguez was there for the Wild Things. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by David Popkins to make it 3-2.

Nick Ferdinand walked and Schaumburg replaced reliever Derek DeYoung with Payton Baskette. Jimmy Yezzo greeted him with a two-run home run to make it 5-2.

In the bottom of the 11th, Jordan Dean began the inning on second base and scored on an error on a grounder hit by Kenny Towns. Paul Kronenfeld flied out before Dusty Robinson walked. Nick Lynch loaded the bases one out later when he was hit by a pitch. Ino Patron walked to drive in Towns to make it 5-4 but Mikal Hill grounded back to the pitcher to end the game.

In the sixth, Zach Weigel walked and came around to score on a single by Towns. Schaumburg made it 2-0 in the seventh when a Weigle single scored Lynch.

Washington made it 2-1 in the top of the eighth when Logan Uxa doubled and scored on a Kevin Pollock single. The Wild Things sent the game to extra innings in the ninth, when Bryan Haar doubled and scored on a single by Popkins.
