College baseball: Cal gets PSAC West split with Seton Hill
California and Seton Hill split a PSAC West Division doubleheader Friday at Consol Energy Park. Seton Hill won the opener 4-0 behind a two-hit shutout from Perry DellaValle before Cal used a four-run third inning to win the second game, 4-2.
Seton Hill (4-2, 16-7) did all its scoring in the opener when Chris Miller hit a grand slam off losing pitcher Jack Dennis.
Cal (5-1, 12-10) used a complete game from winning pitcher Mick Fennell in the second game. The Vulcans mustered only three hits off Seton Hill pitcher Mike Bittel, a Peters Township graduate, but the Vulcans took advantage of an error and two wild pitches during the four-run third.
• Bailey Abbatiello hit a two-run homer as part of a four-run first inning as Thomas More topped Waynesburg, 6-2, in the PAC opener for both teams.
Abbatiello’s homer came off starter Brandon Lawless (0-3), a Carmichaels graduate. Lawless allowed five earned runs for the Yellow Jackets (0-1, 1-11), who lost their 10th straight game.
Matt Bensinger homered for Waynesburg.
Brandon Humphrey allowed one run in seven innings for Thomas More (1-0, 6-3).
