Softball: Bennington perfect as Pioneers down Eagles
ROGERSVILLE – Bailey Bennington celebrated senior day by tossing a perfect game in West Greene’s 12-0, five-inning victory over Avella in Section 1-A.
Bennington struck out 11 and got the 500th strikeout of her career in the third inning. She now has 505, tops in the program history. Bennington went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Pioneers (10-0, 18-1), who tied the school’s win total for a season. Kaitlyn Rizor hit a solo home run and added a single, Madison Lampe went 2-for-2 with a double,, two runs and two RBI. Haleigh Thomas doubled and Madison Renner drove in two runs. Mackenzie Carpenter also had two RBI.
Avella fell to 2-12, 1-9 in the section.
Belle Vernon 6, West Mifflin 0: Bailey Parshall struck out 12, allowed just two hits and had three singles and a double to pace Belle Vernon to a 6-0 victory over West Mifflin in a Section 3-AAA game.
Katelin Legazza and Kourtney Gavatorta each drove in two runs with two singles for the Leopards (8-3, 14-5). Erica Amoroso had a single and double, and Jordan French doubled and drove in a run.
West Mifflin fell to 7-11, 2-9 in the section.
McGuffey 18, Waynesburg 7: McGuffey belted 22 hits, including three-run home runs from Moriah McGuier and Ella Brookman, to rout Waynesburg in a Section 2-AA game.
Brookman drove in four runs and Megan Shultz went 3-for-5 with two runs, a double and two RBI for McGuffey (11-1, 13-1), which clinched the section title outright. Emily Vinski went 4-for-5 with three runs, CC Wagner went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, Balicia Hambleton went 4-for-5 with a double and Rachel Kleinhans went 3-for-5 for four RBI.
Rachel Elsenheimer had a double and two RBI and Tiffany Ross doubled for Waynesburg (9-4, 9-10).
Beth-Center 19, Washington 6: Abby Gustovich struck 15 batters in six innings as Beth-Center defeated Washington, 19-6, in a Section 2-AA game.
Gustovich doubled, while London Brown had two doubles for Beth-Center (2-11, 2-12).
Kiaena Randolph tripled, while Halea Ellis took the loss for Washington (0-13, 0-14).
Charleroi 10, Washington 1: Adrianna Gottheld had three hits as Charleroi downed Washington, 10-1, in a Section 2-AA game.
Ashley Smith allowed five hits to get the win for the Cougars (5-8, 7-8), while Sydney Toth doubled.
Halea Ellis took the loss for the Prexies.
Thomas Jefferson 17, Ringgold 0, 5 inn.: Thomas Jefferson took advantage of nine Ringgold errors and cracked 10 hits on the way to a 17-0, five-inning victory in a Section 3-AAA game.
Heidi Karcher drove in three runs for TJ (11-0, 14-1) and Devon Fitzgerald knocked in two.
Natalie Adams doubled for the Rams (3-9, 5-11).
