Baseball: Presidents win with Groves’ 1-hitter in PAC tournament

Riley Groves threw a one-hitter as third-seeded Washington & Jefferson defeated No. 2 seed Thiel, 4-0, in the opening round of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference tournament Thursday in Crestview Hills, Ky.

Groves did not record a strikeout in the complete-game performance but the Presidents (25-15) did not commit an error, handling 14 flyouts and 12 groundouts.

Ryan Sciullo had three hits, including a homer, driving in two runs.

Canon-McMillan graduate Kevin Forrester threw four scoreless innings of one-hit relief for Thiel (28-13).

W&J plays top-seeded Thomas More, a 7-6 winner over Grove City, at 10 a.m. today and Thiel faces Grove City at 1 p.m
