Charleroi loses to Neshannock
ZELIENOPLE – Courtesy runner Jared Stoth scored on a two-out wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning as top-seeded Neshannock escaped with a 2-1 win over 16th seeded Charleroi Tuesday in the opening round of the WPIAL Class AA baseball playoffs at Seneca Valley High School.
Neshannock (17-2) got seven strong innings out of Frank Fraschetti, who limited the Cougars (11-8) to four hits while striking out 11.
But he was matched pitch for pitch by Charerloi’s Josiah Fisher, who also allowed four hits and struck out seven. Both runs scored against Fisher were unearned.
Neshannock scored its first run in the third inning, while Charleroi tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning.
The Lancers advance to face Shady Side Academy, a winner over Chartiers-Houston Tuesday, in the quarterfinals.
