Haar’s homer not enough as Wild Things fall
JOLIET, Ill. – Marc Flores went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs to help Joliet defeate Washington 5-2 in a Frontier League game Wednesday at Silver Cross Field.
The Slammers (3-3) tagged Wild Things starter Trevor Foss for four runs on six hits, taking advantage of three walks. Flores and Boo Vazquez had RBI singles in a two-run fifth inning to help Joliet secure the led.
Slammers starting pitcher Liam O’Sullivan pitched five scoreless innings with six strikeous. The Wild Things (2-3) got their only runs in the top of the sixth inning and it all began when Austin Wobrock reached on an error. Four pitches later, Bryan Haar hit a two-run homer to cut the deficit to two runs, but Joliet added a run in the seventh and Kevin McNorton shut the door by earning the save, allowing one hit in 1 1/3 innings.
Charlie White went three-for-three with a pair of doubles as Joliet defeated Washington, 6-1, Tuesday night.
Washington managed just six hits against three Joliet pitchers, three of which were by David Popkins, who also had a walk to go along with a double.
Spencer Medick earned the win for Joliet, allowing one run in 5 1/3 innings.
Brandon Hinkle took the loss for the Wild Things, allowing six runs, five earned, in 4 1/3 innings.
The Slammers scored three runs each in the first and fifth innings.
