Yellow Jackets edged in consolation game
Jesse Browne and Mason Dyslin combined for 47 points and Vassar used a big advantage at the free-throw line to rally and edge Waynesburg 85-82 in the consolation game of the Rochester Airport Hotel Invitational in Rochester, N.Y.
Waynesburg (1-3) had more field goals (30-27) than Vassar and made five more three-pointers but the Yellow Jackets were outscored 24-10 at the free-throw line.
Vassar (4-2) led 46-43 at halftime but Waynesburg used a 17-4 run to take a 68-59 lead with 10:18 remaining. The Yellow Jackets still led by nine points before Vassar went on an 18-8 spurt to regain the lead at 79-78 with 2:22 to play.
Christian Koroly, who led Waynesburg with 20 points, scored on a layup to put the Yellow Jackets back in the lead for the final time at 80-79 with two minutes remaining.
A basket by Alex Seff put Vassar in the lead for good at 81-80 and the Brewers made all four of their free throws down the stretch.
Browne led Vassar with 26 points, Dyslin had 21, Seff 11 and Kyle Kappes 10.
Jon Knab scored 16 points for Waynesburg, which shot 48 percent but committed 21 turnovers. Kendall Paige scored 13 points and Frank Bzicevic had 10.
