Girls Soccer: Canon-McMillan sweeps Upper St. Clair
Canon-McMillan completed a regular season sweep of defending state champion Upper St. Clair with a 5-3 victory in a Section 2-AAAA high school girls soccer victory Saturday.
Aideen O’Donoghue had a hat trick for the Big Macs (5-0-1, 9-0-1), while Sabrina Bryan and Lexi Finney both added single goals.
Landy Mertz scored twice for USC (3-3, 6-4), which also got a goal from Kelsey McCown.
• Peters Township used a second half surge to cruise past Baldwin 6-1 in a section 2-AAAA match.
The Indians (3-2, 5-3-1) led 1-0 at half and would add double that advantage not long after play resumed when Regan LaVigna scored on a header off a corner. She finished with two goals and two assists.
But Baldwin (0-7, 3-11-1) responded quickly when Haley Huber’s free kick from 20 yards out found the back of the net.
With the game appearing as though it would stay close, Natalie Daube extended the PT lead in the 52nd minute with a header from a corner. Hannah Stuck also had two goals for PT, while Emily Cottrill had one.
• Samantha Doleno had 11 saves as South Fayette and Montour battled to a 0-0 tie in Section 4-AAA.
South Fayette is 5-3-1 in section and 7-4-1, while Montour is 6-1-2, 9-1-2.
• Waynesburg remained unbeaten in Section 3-AA as Jillian Kijowski had two goals in a 4-0 win over Derry.
Claire Garber and Kaley Pell also scored for the Raiders (7-0, 10-1), while Emily McCarty recorded the shutout. Derry falls to 4-3, 6-4.
