Waynesburg tops Grove City for win

GROVE CITY – Waynesburg University’s defense recorded eight sacks as the Yellow Jackets won their first game this season, topping Grove City Saturday in a Presidents’ Conference football game, 14-10.

Brad Grinnen had 3.0 sacks and Aniello DeStefano had 2.5 to help the Yellow Jackets (1-2, 1-4) offset a day in which their offense was outgained 340-265 in total yardage.

Aaron Jenkins scored on a 1-yard run early in the fourth quarter to put Waynesburg ahead after Grove City (0-3, 0-5) had grabbed a 10-7 lead in the third quarter on a 13-yard TD run by Wesley Schools and a 31-yard field goal by Mitch Causer.

Kevin Barnes, who had four receptions for 73 yards, gave Waynesburg a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, catching a 9-yard TD pass from Tyler Perone.

Tristan Sandrosky had 13 tackles to lead Waynesburg, while McGuffey graduate Brent Blacharczyk added 10.
