ELLSWORTH – Washington overcame a slow start by scoring 35 second-half points and pulling away for a 47-14 victory over Bentworth in a Century Conference high school football game Friday night.

Washington (4-0, 6-0) remained a half-game behind conference leader Chartiers-Houston (5-0, 6-1). The Prexies will play C-H next week in Houston.

Bentworth (2-4, 3-4) started fast as Marquez Bentley returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and the Bearcats held a 14-12 lead at halftime. Ben Peternel’s one-yard touchdown run gave the Bearcats a 14-6 lead in the second quarter.

Wash High quarterback Connor Bedillion scored on a one-yard plunge and threw a six-yard TD pass to Jake Swartz, both in the third quarter as the Prexies scored the game’s final 41 points. Lyle Webb ran for three touchdowns, covering seven, six and four yards, and Ronnie Paith rambled 40 yards for a score.

Webb was the game’s leading rusher with 137 yards on 22 carries. Wash High ran for 247 yards on the muddy field. Bentworth was held to 94 yards total offense.

Washington’s final score came when Isaiah Walton scooped up a blocked punt and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.
