Miraculous finish nets Ringgold win
WEST MIFFLIN – It was one of the most wild and unbelievable finishes in Ringgold football history.
The Rams scored two touchdowns in the final eight seconds of the game to stun West Mifflin, 29-26, in a Class 4-A Big 9 Conference game.
Quarterback George Martin hit Octavius Vassar with the winning score with no time remaining in the game.
The win moved Ringgold to 5-2 in the conference and overall. West Mifflin was handed its first loss of the season and stands at 5-1 and 7-1.
The Rams trailed 26-14 late in the fourth quarter but drove 80 yards and scored when Martin ran it in on a 2-yard run and Matt Cannon kicked the extra point to close West Mifflin’s lead to 26-21.
On Martin’s TD run, West Mifflin was penalized for a personal foul and the Rams kicked off from the West Mifflin 45-yard line. Ringgold tried an onside kick and Dalton Holt recovered at the West Mifflin 32 with seven seconds remaining. West Mifflin was assessed another personal foul on the play and that set the Rams up on the West Mifflin 17.
Martin then hit Vassar with a touchdown pass that made it 27-26 with no time on the clock. Ringgold was forced to try the extra-point for possible Gardner Points tiebreaker implications and Brendan Small ran it in.
