Cal rolls over Clarion, improves to 6-0
CLARION – Michael Keir passed for 307 yards and three second-quarter touchdowns, Nick Grissom rushed for 253 yards and California, ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division II, remained undefeated with a 48-20 victory over Clarion in a PSAC West Division game Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
It was Cal’s 12th consecutive win over Clarion (1-3, 2-5).
Keir threw touchdown passes of 10 yards to Tom Greene, and two and three yards to Garry Brown, the later with seven seconds left in the first half to give California a 28-13 lead. Keir completed 27 of 36 passes. He was intercepted one time.
Grissom opened the scoring with a 36-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and added a four-yard score in the fourth quarter as Cal improved to 4-0 in the conference and 6-0 overall. Grissom had the Vulcans’ best rushing game of the season with his 253 yards on 32 carries.
The Vulcans rolled up 616 yards total offense.
Clarion quarterback Jeff Clemens threw three touchdown passes, including two to Matt Lehman. Clemens completed 10 of 27 passes for 147 yards but was intercepted three times and sacked three times.
