Steelers might have to get creative at WR
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Steelers might have to get a little more creative than usual with their offense today when they play the Miami Dolphins.
Wide receivers Markus Wheaton and Sammie Coates both could be missing because of injuries for the Steelers (4-1) against Miami (1-4). Wheaton has already been declared out with a shoulder injury, while Coates is dealing not only with a laceration on his left hand that required seven stitches, but a broken finger on that hand as well.
The Steelers signed receiver Cobi Hamilton off their practice squad on Saturday but even with him and the return of Eli Rogers from a two-game game absence with a toe injury, the Steelers will only have four healthy receivers for this game. Antonio Brown and Darrius Heyward-Bey are the other two.
Hamilton has never appeared in an NFL game.
That could force offensive coordinator Todd Haley to use running back Le’Veon Bell more as a wideout in this game with DeAngelo Williams at running back.
The Steelers used that package extensively two weeks ago when Bell returned from a three-game suspension but used it sparingly last week in a victory over the New York Jets.
In two games since his return, Bell has recorded 14 receptions.
