Girls Soccer: Clayton leads Waynesburg past McGuffey
Madison Clayton scored three goals to push her total to a school-record 40 on the season as Waynesburg wrapped up its Section 3-AA schedule with a 7-0 win over McGuffey in a high school girls soccer match Monday.
Clayton, a junior, now has a school-record 84 goals for Waynesburg (11-1, 15-2). Bailey Fudala, Kaley Pell, Jillian Kijowski and Lauren Rose also scored for the Raiders, while Emily McCarty recorded the shutout.
McGuffey finishes at 2-10, 4-11.
• Paige Marshalek scored three goals, giving her 27 this season, as Bentworth shut out Beth-Center, 3-0, in a Section 2-A match. Cande Kossel recorded her eighth shutout for the Bearcats (10-0, 13-1), which clinched the section title outright with the win.
Beth-Center is 4-7, 4-9.
• Erin James had two goals for Chartiers-Houston but South Side Beaver beat the Bucs, 8-3, in a non-section match. Alyssa Daugherty added a goal for C-H (8-10). South Side Beaver improves to 9-7-1.
• Aideen O’Donoghue scored 30 minutes into the second half – her second goal of the match – to give Canon-McMillan a 3-2 win over Butler in a non-section match.
Sabrina Bryan added the other goal for the Big Macs (15-0-1). Brittnie Spithaler had two goals for Butler (10-5-2).
• Peters Township wrapped up third place in Section 2-AAAA with a 1-1 tie against Mt. Lebanon.
Hannah Stuck had a first-half goal on a penalty kick for the Indians (5-4-1, 10-5-2), who finish ahead of Mt. Lebanon (5-4-1, 8-7-2) thanks to a victory over the fourth-place Blue Devils earlier this season.
Jess Wilhelm scored the tying goal in the second half for Mt. Lebanon.
• Sierra Lynn scored twice to help Belle Vernon down Laurel Highlands 3-1 in a Section 2-AAA game. Marissa Grubbs had the other goal for BV, 9-1-2 in the section and playoff bound.
A balanced scoring attack helped Belle Vernon shut out Southmoreland, 5-0. Tyler Seliga, Mark Lovett, Jackson Guess and Markello Apodiakos each had a goal in the first half. Logan Perez scored in the second half.
