AVELLA – Garret Geresti caught a touchdown pass and returned one of his two interceptions 72 yards for another score to help Avella to a 32-20 Tri-County South win over West Greene.

West Greene (0-1, 0-2) led 12-8 after a Ben Jackson touchdown run and a scoring pass from Cole Hamilton to Zach Pettit.

But Dalton Simonelli, who had scored on a 5-yard run earlier, threw a 34-yard TD pass to Geresti just before the half to give the Eagles (1-0, 1-1) the lead.

Steve Miller, who had 103 yards rushing on 25 carries, put the game out of reach midway through the fourth quarter with a 3-yard TD run.

Pettit threw an 18-yard TD pass to Isaac Courtwright with just under three minutes to play, but the Eagles recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock.
