Hull sticks with Dolphins
MIAMI – Canon-McMillan High School graduate Mike Hull earned a spot on the Miami Dolphins season-opening 53-man roster with a strong preseason.
Hull, a Penn State graduate, finished second in the NFL in preseason tackles with 27.
Hull spent half of last season on Miami’s practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster midway through the year. He appeared in three games, making one tackle.
The Dolphins kept five running backs, but released veteran Daniel Thomas, ending his third stint with the team.
Thomas was beaten out for a roster spot Saturday by Isaiah Pead, a former second-round pick who has had only two carries since 2013.
The Dolphins placed cornerback Chris Culliver on the physically unable to perform list. Culliver, recovering from a serious knee injury last Thanksgiving, will be eligible to begin practicing after the sixth game.
Last weekend, Miami released linebacker Akil Blount, a Taylorstown resident and graduate of the Linsly School in Wheeling. Blount is the son of former Steelers Hall of Fame cornerback Mel Blount.
