AVON, Ohio – Justin Garcia’s two-run double in the top of the ninth inning broke open what had been a close game as the Washington Wild Things defeated Lake Erie, 9-3, Saturday night in a Frontier League game.

Washington (45-48), which has been eliminated from playoff contention put Lake Erie’s postseason hopes on life support as well. The Crushers (47-48) needed a win to move into a tie with River City (48-47) heading into the final day of the regular season.

Garcia had three hits, while Jimmy Yezzo and Ryne Willard had two each for Washington.

Luke Wilkins started for the Wild Things allowing all three runs combining with three relievers on a six hitter.

Washington pounded out 12 hits against six different Lake Erie pitchers.
