Girls soccer: Benworth wins on Marshalek’s OT goal
Paige Marshalek scored the game-winning goal Wednesday in the second overtime as Bentworth defeated Seton-La Salle 3-2.
Bea Kossell had a big game for Bentworth, scoring two goals.
• South Fayette opened section play with a strong defensive effort, blanking Ambridge 1-0.
Rachel Helbling had the game’s lone goal. Teammate Samantha Boleno made 12 saves.
SF is 1-0 in Section 4-AAA and 3-0 overall.
• Waynesburg destroyed Brownsville 8-0 to start league play. Madison Clayton led the way with four goals, and Bailey Fedala finished with a hat trick. Kaley Pell chipped in with a score. Raiders goalkeeper Emily McCarty had an uneventful day, saving a single shot.
Waynesburg is 1-0 in section 3-AA, 2-1 overall.
• A brace by Sydney Urbine helped Beth-Center to a 3-1 season-opening win over Chartiers-Houston.
Casey Facon assisted on one of Urbine’s two, and Sierra Phillips added a goal of her own. Madison Acor scored the Buccaneers’ lone goal.
Mikayla Kanalis kept out 13 attempts on goal for Beth-Center. Kacey Scears stopped 14 shots for Chartiers-Houston (0-1, 0-3).
• North Allegheny scored three goals int he final 7 1/2 minutes, the last on a pently kick, to rally for a 3-2 victory over host Peters Township in a non-section match.
Peters Township (1-1-1) forged a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Mia Toscano and Natalie Daube.
