Waynesburg High School will honor its 1966 football team during halftime ceremonies at tonight’s game against Yough.

Kickoff is 7 p.m.

The 1966 Waynesburg team went 8-0-1 and recorded three shutouts, including a nonconference 0-0 tie against Albert Gallatin. The two teams finished 8-0-1 and neither made the WPIAL playoffs because of the Gardner Point System. Waynesburg outscored its opponents, 213-54.

Most of the members are expected to attend, including many members who went on to play college football. Paul Wright, the team captain, went to Staunton Military Academy, where he captained that team. He later transferred to Michigan. Rick Joseph, Terry Gusic, Jay Payne, John Hardisty, and Ron Fox played at Waynesburg College; Dan Morgan went to the University of Delaware. John Albert, Jim Fritz, and Jim Burns played at California University and Miles Davin played at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The sons of Jeff Cree (Bryce) and Jim Fritz (Lee) played on Waynesburg’s 1999 WPIAL championship team.

The team’s three coaches – head coach Mike Baker and assistants Mark Booth and Jack Cassidy – and four players – Bill Brunofsky, Dave Adams, Jim Burns, and Dan Breeden – are deceased. Brunofsky won a state wrestling title in the 1966-67 school year.
