Case Western keeps Waynesburg winless
WAYNESBURG – Jacob Burke rushed for 163 yards and four touchdowns as undefeated Case Western Reserve rolled to a 35-7 victory over Waynesburg in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at John F. Wiley Stadium.
Burke, who carried 20 times, scored on runs of two, one, 25 and 49 yards. Case Western (2-0, 3-0) used two touchdowns in the final five minutes of the first half to break a 7-7 tie. The Spartans tacked on a pair of fourth-quarter scores.
Waynesburg (0-2, 0-4) threw four interceptions, two of which set up Case Western touchdowns. The Yellow Jackets have lost six in a row dating back to last season.
Waynesburg tied the score at 7-7 on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Perone to wide receiver Kevin Barnes early in the second quarter. Perone, who was making his first start in place of injured quarterback Jack Dougherty, completed 18 of 38 passes for 200 yards but was intercepted four times.
Burke gave Case Western a 14-7 led with a one-yard run with 4:26 left in the first half. After intercepting a Perone pass, the Spartans made it 21-7 when Burke bolted 25 yards up the middle with 1:16 left in the half.
Case Western quarterback Rob Cuda capped an 11-play drive with one-yard plunge in the fourth quarter and Burke scored his fourth TD with 7:34 remaining. The Spartans rushed for 286 yards and held Waynesburg to 57 on the ground.
