CALIFORNIA – Jonathan Wood rushed for 116 yards and one touchdown, Austin Grillo scored on two runs and Dustin Mock booted a key field goal in the fourth quarter as California rallied to beat Monessen 24-22 Friday night in a Tri-County South Conference game.

Monessen (1-3, 1-5) led 14-7 at halftime, but California (4-1, 5-2) reeled off the first 17 points of the second half.

Grillo’s 28-yard run in the third quarter tied the score and Wood gave Cal a 21-14 advantage with a fourth-quarter touchdown. Mock booted a 31-yard field goal that gave the Trojans a 24-14 edge with 2:50 remaining. Monessen’s Jaden Altomore returned the ensuing kickoff 79 yards to the Cal 20-yard line. Two plays later, Altomore caught a 10-yard TD pass from Cory Fleming and a conversion run made it a two-point game.

California recovered Monessen’s onside kick and the Trojans’ offense gained a first down that enabled it to run out the clock.

Youngblood rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.
