Jefferson-Morgan rolls up 749 yards in 59-34 win over Avella

JEFFERSON -Jefferson-Morgan’s struggling offense awoke in a big way as Joe Headlee rushed for 370 yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries as the Rockets ran for 569 yards in a 59-34 Tri-County South high school football win over Avella Friday night.

The Rockets (1-2, 1-5) had scored just four touchdowns in their first five games, but had nine in this game, including four from Headlee, three on receptions by Dennis Garrett and two by Brennan Kozich. David Morgan, who passed for 180 yards and threw all three TDs to Garrett, als ran for a touchdown as the Rockets rolled up 749 yards of total offense.

Garrett had three receptions for 108 yards.

Garrett Geresti gained 95 yards on eight carries for Avella (1-4, 1-5) and scored three touchdowns to keep the game close in the first half, as the Rockets led just 27-26.

Dalton Simonelli ran for a score and completed 16 of 31 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown, which went to Kevin Painter from 50 yards out.
