College baseball: W&J sweeps Waynesburg

Canon-McMillan graduate Frank Fortunato homered in the first game and had two hits in the nightcap, driving in six runs, as Washington & Jefferson swept host Waynesburg Saturday in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference doubleheader, 5-2 and 16-2.

Riley Groves limited Waynesburg (3-4, 8-10) to five hits over seven innings in the opener, though one of the hits was a home run by Jonathan Kletzli.

The Presidents (6-0, 11-3) then pounded out 20 hits against five Waynesburg pitchers in the nightcap, including three each from Dan Trettel and Mark Merlino.

Brian Schnatterly got the win in the second game.

Tyler Reis and Eli Kucherawy had two hits each for the Yellow Jackets in the game.
