High school softball: Parshall strikes out 16 in Belle Vernon win

Bailey Parshall threw a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts and just one walk as Belle Vernon remained unbeaten in Section 2-AAAA with a 7-0 win over Elizabeth Forward Wednesday.

Lexie Church had three hits, including a double, while Hanna Legazza also doubled and Kourtney Gavatorta drive in three runs with her three singles for the Leopards (4-0, 7-0).

Belle Vernon has five consecutive shutouts.

• One day after hitting six home runs and scoring 14 runs, Canon-McMillan routed host Upper St. Clair 22-4 in a Class 6-A Section 1 game.

The Big Macs (1-1, 1-1) had 18 hits. Brittney Crawford went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI, Katelyn Greaves was 3-for-5 and drove in four runs, and Lindsay Schmidt had three hits including a double, two RBI and scored four times.

Canon-Mac took the lead with a seven-run second inning in which six different Big Macs drove in runs. C-M tacked on nine runs in the third inning.

Pitchers Abu Michelucci and Kayla Hopkins combined on a three-hitter.

• California scored five runs in the first inning and held off a late Jefferson-Morgan rally to edge the Rockets 8-7 in Section 2-A.

California (2-2, 2-4) made the most of seven hits with Rebecca Staley hitting a double and driving in two runs. Kalsie Walker doubled for the Trojans.

Autumn Tedrow hit a home run and had two RBI for Jefferson-Morgan (0-1, 1-3). Maddie Vandiunm tripled, and Krista McCartney and Brooke Diamond doubled.

• Waynesburg remained undefeated in Section 3-AAA with a 12-2 five-inning victory over Brownsville.

Madison Johnson led a 14-hit Waynesburg attack, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Tara Staley and Sidney Hare each had a double, and Brooke Moore drove in three runs, as the Raiders moved to 2-0 in the section and 5-1 overall. Waynesburg has won four in a row.

Winning pitcher Emma Ricciuti threw a two-hitter.

• Maddie Beckinger hit two home runs, and Johnna Mocniak smacked a grand slam, as Ringgold overpowered Laurel Highlands 13-2 in six innings in Class 5-A Section 2.

Ringgold (2-0, 3-1) broke open the game with five runs in the sixth inning, including Mocniak’s grand slam and one of Beckinger’s home runs.

Ringgold pitchers Jordan Sinz and Jillian Scherer scattered seven hits.

• Winning pitcher Justine Dean allowed just three hits and homered while driving in five runs as South Park stopped McGuffey, 11-1, in a six-inning Section 3-AAA game.

Kaitlyn Morrison and Kaitlyn Pavlick also homered for South Park (2-0, 4-0).

McGuffey is 1-1, 2-3.

• Olivia Porter had three hits, including a homer, as Southmoreland defeated Charleroi, 15-5, in Section 3-AAA.

Adeline Nicholson also homered for the Scotties (1-1, 2-1), and Sophia Gatti was the winning pitcher.

Ciara Stickles had a pair of doubles for Charleroi (0-2, 0-3).

• Leah Lindley allowed just three hits and belted a pair of doubles as Bentworth shut out Fort Cherry, 12-0, in a five-inning Section 3-AA game.

Emelie Snyder tripled and Morgan Hawley doubled for the Bearcats (1-0, 3-4).

Bailey Griffith had a double for Fort Cherry (0-2, 2-2).

• Makenna Lampe led off the game with a homer and later doubled, going 4-4 with three RBI and four steals as West Greene defeated Clay Battelle, W.Va., 11-0, in a five-inning game.

Kaitlyn Rizor had three hits, including a triple, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs for the Pioneers (6-0) to back the pitching of Madison Renner.

Losing pitcher Abby Ammons doubled for Clay-Battelle (2-1).

• Laura Walker scattered five hits as Carmichaels defeated Avella, 11-1, in Section 2-A.

Natalie McNett, Emily Menhart and Kylee Sinn all doubled, while Gina Ranieri tripled for the Mikes (2-0, 4-2).

Paige Allen doubled for Avella (0-2, 0-2).
