High school baseball roundup: Bentworth’s Jansante gets 300th victory

Bentworth scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning, then added an insurance run in the seventh beat Burgettstown, 8-3, in Section 1-AA and hand head coach Dion Jansante his 300th career victory Monday.

Jansante has been the head coach of the Bearcats for 28 years and been involved with the program for 33.

Isaiah Russell had three hits and winning pitcher Justin Kisner had three hits and drove in three runs for the Bearcats (1-1, 2-3).

Cole LaRocka doubled and Ryan Lounder had three hits for Burgettstown (0-3, 1-4).

• A second attempted squeeze play finally scored the winning run as Beth-Center defeated Fort Cherry, 5-4, in a Section 1-AA game.

A previous squeeze play attempt in the inning didn’t work and the runner was thrown out. But Hunter Bowen’s attempt worked and he doubled earlier in the game for B-C (1-2, 1-4).

Fort Cherry tied the score when Hunter Terpack bunted in a run. Cam Schaub had two doubles for the Rangers.

• Brownsville scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie and lift the Falcons to an 8-5 Section 3-AAA win over Washington.

Colton Dellarose doubled for the Falcons (3-0, 4-0) to back winning pitcher Josh Davidson.

Nathan Shallcross and Steven Shallcross both doubled for Washington (1-2, 2-3).

• Nick Maue had three hits, including a double, as Moon cruised to an 11-0 six-inning Section 2-5A win over Trinity.

Ryan Osman, Dom Decchio and Maue combined on the shutout for the Tigers (1-1, 4-1), scattering seven hits and striking out five without allowing a walk.

Tanner Hudak had two hits, including a double, for the Hillers (1-2, 2-3).

• Gage Clark threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts as Jefferson-Morgan recorded its second consecutive shuout, beating West Greene, 11-0, in a five-inning Section 2-A game.

Clark also hit two triples, driving in four runs and scoring three times, for the Rockets (2-0, 2-3), while Isaac Dean doubled twice and drove in three runs in the victory.

Matt Stoneking doubled for West Greene (0-3, 0-4).

• Blaze Tran threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts as Jeanette defeated Mapletown, 11-1, in a five-inning Section 2-A game.

Tre Cunningham, Brandt Billick and Michael Pompei each doubled for the Jayhawks (2-0, 3-1). Mapletown is 1-2 in section, 2-4 overall.

• Chartiers-Houston rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Bucs came from behind to beat Frazier, 10-6, in a Section 1-AA game.

Brian Price had two doubles, A.J. Myers and Josh Coletti had three hits each for the Bucs (2-1, 2-2).

• Canon-McMillan overcame a two-homer, five-RBI game by Baldwin’s Jon Kozarian and an early four-run deficit to beat the host Highlanders 8-5 in Class 6-A Section 3.

The win was the third in a row for the Big Macs (3-0, 4-4).

Kozarian, who was 3-for-3, drove in all Baldwin’s runs as the Highlanders (1-3, 3-3) led 5-1 in the third inning. Canon-McMillan rallied and took a 6-5 lead in the fifth and tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth.

Zach Rohaley had three hits, including a double, and Ian Hess also doubled to lead the Big Macs at the plate. Winning pitcher Cam Weston went five innings and combined with Nick Drake on a six-hitter. Drake was credited with a save.

• Lefty Tristan Tinney pitched six shutout innings and undefeated South Fayette used a pair of three-run innings to beat host New Castle 6-1 in Section 2-AAAA.

Tinney struck out eight as the Lions improved to 3-0 in section and 4-0 overall. South Fayette scored three times in the fourth – twice on a double by Christian Gabriel – and three more times in the fifth including two on a double by Nolan Lutz.

New Castle (0-2, 2-2) scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

• Dalton Riggenbach and Hunter Robinson combined for six hits, six runs, and two RBI to power Waynesburg to an 11-3 thumping of visiting Southmoreland in Section 3-AAA.

Waynesburg (4-1) forged a 6-0 lead after two innings and cruised to its second section win in as many outings. Hunter Robinson was 3-for-3 with an RBI and scored four runs. Riggenbach was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.

Brandon Turcheck had a double, and Luke Robinson and Kyle Blasco each drove in a pair of runs.

Three Waynesburg pitchers combined on a two-hitter and survived seven walks.

• Chad Meny hit a two-run double in Rochester’s three-run first inning and that fast start was enough for the Rams to defeat Avella 5-2 and remain undefeated in Section 3-A.

Winning pitcher Lucas Mansueti threw a six-hitter and struck out nine for Rochester (3-0, 3-3). Garrett Geresti had two of Avella’s hits.

Avella pitchers combined on a four-hitter. The Eagles are 0-1 in section and 1-2 overall.

• Chad Workman, Conner Demoss, Nik Gibson and Colton Bittner doubled as Uniontown made the most of its six hits in a 4-3 Section 3-AAAA win over McGuffey.

Losing pitcher Mike Novak doubled for the Highlanders (2-1, 4-2), who outhit the Red Raiders, 8-6 in the game.
