College baseball: W&J wins in 10, stays unbeaten in PAC

Second baseman Adam LaRue delivered an RBI single in the top of the 10th inning as Washington & Jefferson ran its winning streak to 10 games with a 3-2 win at Bethany in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game.

W&J, ranked No. 17 in NCAA Division III, improves to 17-3 overall. The Presidents are 12-0 in PAC play for the first time in school history.

Pinch-hitter Kevin Begley led off the 10th with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Mullen Socha, who advanced on a sacrifirce bunt and groundout. He scored on LaRue’s hit to right center.

Derek Helbing pitched one inning of relief the win. Joe Vita retired all three batters he faced for a save. W&J starter Ben Marsico threw 6 2/3 shutout innings.

Bethany (5-7, 10-13-1) forced extra innings by scoring single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
