Wild Things sign Troy Polamalu’s cousin
Less than two weeks before the start of Frontier League spring training, the Wild Things announced Monday they have signed outfielder Stefan Sabol, who has spent the past five seasons with in the New York Mets organization.
Sabol is a cousin of former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, and is nicknamed the “Swingin’ Samoan.”
Sabol was selected by the Mets in the 17th round out of Orange Coast College. Sabol’s best season was 2015, when he batted .258 with 23 doubles and 47 RBI during stops with two Class A affiliates. In his five-year professional career, Sabol has hit 32 home runs. He played last season for the Mets’ Class AA affiliate in Binghamton, N.Y.
“Stefan is a team-first guy who has played a big role in a few championship runs for the Mets organization. We have been pursuing him since the fall and are excited to make this official,” Wild Things general manager Steve Zavacky said. “Last season, he was hampered by a handful of nagging injuries … but his skillset fits our design.”
