College baseball: Fortunto’s grand slam sparks W&J to sweep of Point Park
Washington & Jefferson swept Point Park in a Wednesday nonconference doubleheader, coming from behind to win 13-11 in the first game and following it with a 6-3 victory at Ross Memorial Park.
The Presidents improved to 20-7 overall, the sixth straight season with 20 or more wins and 13th time in the last 14 seasons. Point Park is 28-15.
After falling behind 7-2 in the opener, W&J received a grand slam to left centerfield from Frank Fortunato. Mick Gatins followed with a solo home run to tie the score.
Adam LaRue gave W&J the lead at 9-7 with a two-run double and Derek Helbing had a home run.
Garrett Harstine, the second of three W&J pitchers, was the winner and Helbing had a save.
In the second game, five W&J pitchers combined on a three-hitter and Nick Gatins drove in two runs.
Santino Platt was the winning pitcher and Mitchell Taufer got the final three outs for a save.
