High school baseball roundup: Waynesburg still unbeaten in 3-AAA

Luke Robinson drove in Kyle Shriver with the go-ahead run in the fifth inning and combined with Hunter Robinson on a four-hitter as Waynesburg remained undefeated in Section 3-AAA with a 5-2 come-from-behind victory over visiting Brownsville Wednesday.

Waynesburg (4-0, 7-1), which won its fifth in a row, trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning. The Raiders tied the score on RBI singles by Hunter Robinson and Kyle Blasco. Luke Robinson’s key single gave Waynesburg a 3-2 lead in the fifth, and the Raiders tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth, one run scoring on an error and the other on a single by Ryley Metheny.

Hunter Robinson struck out 10 over 5 2/3 innings for the win. Luke Robinson struck out four over the final 1 1/3 innings.

Brownsville’s Josh Davison had the game’s only extra-base hit, a double.

• Peters Township used a 16-hit attack to overwhelm Mt. Lebanon in a Class 6-A Section 3 game at Peters Wood Park late Wednesday night.

The Indians (4-1, 10-1) had a pair of four-run innings, the third and fourth, to forge an early 11-4 lead. Ethan Young was 3-for-3 and scored three times for PT and Brian Livolsi was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Xander Cavanaugh and Tor Sehnert each had a double. Fourteen of PT’s hits were singles.

Eric Riotto was the winning pitcher.

Nick Schaub homered and Ethan Cuccarese doubled for Mt. Lebanon (3-2, 7-5).

• Jordan Davis and T.J. Johnston combined on a three-hit shutout, leadoff hitter Josh Coletti doubled and scored twice, and Chartiers-Houston won a battle for second place in Section 1-AA with a 2-0 victory over host Carmichaels.

The win moves C-H to 5-1 in the section and 6-3 overall. The Bucs are a game behind section-leading California. Carmichael slips to 4-2 in section and 6-3 overall.

The Bucs scored single runs in the first and third innings and that was all the offense Davis and Johnston needed. Davis, the winning pitcher, allowed three hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings and Johnston retired all five batters he faced for a save.

Johnston gave C-H a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly. Coletti led off the third with a double and scored on a single by Destin Weiser.

• Courtesy-runner Justin Galati scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to give Canon-McMillan a 1-0 victory over Bethel Park in a Class 6-A Section 3 game.

Cam Walker drove in Galati, who replaced Brandon Rea, who started the inning with a single and moved to third on an error and sacrifice. Cam Weston threw six shutout innings, alowing just two hits. Nick Drake got the win in relief for C-M (5-0, 6-4), which has won five straight games. Zach Straub took the loss for BP, which fell to 3-2 in the section.

• Eli Rafail’s sacrifice fly scored Gage Clark with the winning run in the sixth inning during Jefferson-Morgan’s 5-4 win over Monessen in Section 2-A.

Clark went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and two stolen bases for the Rockets (4-0, 4-4). He also tripled.

Cory Fleming had a double, two triples and scored twice for Monessen (2-2, 2-5).

• Connor Bedillion drove in seven runs to help Washington clobber Seton-La Salle, 20-5, in a six-inning Section 3-AAA game.

Bedillion went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two doubles for the Prexies (2-3, 4-5). Frank Hartzell went 4-for-4 with a double and scored three runs. Isaiah Perry had a double and scored four runs, Nathan Shellcross had three hits and scored three times and Lyle Webb had two hits, three runs and an RBI. Kevin Patterson doubled and Cooper Sharp had three hits and an RBI.

• Ryan Jones had three RBI as Quigley crushed Avella, 15-0, in a five-inning game in Section 3-A. John Jansman struck out five and allowed two hits for Quigley (3-2, 4-3). Dalton Simonelli doubled for Avella (0-4, 2-5).

• Nate Higham’s three-run home run punctuated a 13-2 victory by Fort Cherry over Frazier in a Section 1-AA game that lasted five innings. Cam Schaub, Cade Krou and Shane Smith each had a double for the Rangers (2-4, 4-5).

J.D. Celashi homered, doubled and drove in two for the Commodores (2-4, 2-6).

• Hunter Ayers doubled and drove in two to push Burgettstown to a 7-3 win over Beth-Center in a Section 2-AA game. Ryan Lounder doubled for the Blue Devils (1-5, 2-6).

Losing pitcher Tyler Zelencik had three hits and two RBI for Beth-Center (1-5, 1-7).

• Winning pitcher Tristan Tinney doubled and drove in two to help power South Fayette to a 12-2, six-inning win over Central Valley in a Section 2 game in Class 4-A.

Tinney struck out 11 and walked two for SF (4-2, 5-6). Christian Gabriel doubled.

• George Martin and Koby Bubash each drove in two runs, Josh Peters and Chase Angotti combined on an eight-hitter and Ringgold won its third in a row, defeating host Elizabeth Forward 5-2 in Section 3-AAAA.

Ringgold (3-2, 6-2) trailed 2-1 before its scored three times in the top of the fourth to take the lead. Angotti had a run-scoring single that tied the game, and Martin delivered a two-out, two-strike single that drove in a pair of runs. All of the Ringgold runs in the inning came after two outs and nobody was on base.

Peters pitched four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and Angotti threw three shutout innings of relief.

Ringgold’s Ryan Varley had the game’s only extra-base hit, a double.

• Jordan Zilka homered to lead Belle Vernon’s 12-hit attack as the Leopards moved above. 500 in Section 3-AAAA with an 8-2 victory over Uniontown at Bailey Park.

Zilka was one of five Belle Vernon players with multiple-hit games. Jacob Callaway had two doubles and scored twice, and Tim Labuda also doubled.

Winning pitcher Joel Engstrom threw five shutout innings as the Leopards improved to 3-2 in the section and 5-3 overall. Uniontown is 2-4, 3-6.

• Greensburg Central Catholic remained undefeated in Section 2-A with a 12-0 victory in five innings at West Greene.

Winning pitcher Antonio Cavallo struck out 12 and scattered five hits as GCC improved to 4-0 in section and 4-1 overall. West Greene is 1-4, 1-5.

All 15 hits in the game were singles.

• Trey Manspeaker, Nick Ackerman, Anthony Veltri and Donavan Meyers – the top four hitters in West Mifflin’s lineup – combined for 11 hits, five runs, nine RBI and three doubles as the Titans defeated host McGuffey 13-3 in Section 3-AAAA.

Meyers combined with reliever Ryan Ruffing on a five-hitter as West Mifflin improved to 2-2 in section and 2-5 overall.

Ed Shingle had two of the hits for McGuffey (3-3, 5-6), which lost its third game in as many days.

• Johnn DeFranco and winning pitcher Richard Stimell each drove in three runs and Brandon Powell reached base five times as California remained atop Section 1-AA with a 13-4 victory over visiting Bentworth.

DeFranco was 3-for-4, and Powell was 2-for-2 with three runs, three stolen bases, a walk and was hit by two pitches as California (6-0, 9-1) stayed unbeaten in section play.
