College sports: Waynesburg knocks off Saint Vincent; W&J pounds Geneva
Nate Mori and Tyler Reis both doubled and drove in two runs each as Waynesburg defeated Saint Vincent, 5-4, Friday in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference baseball game.
Reis had three hits for the Yellow Jackets (7-8, 13-17), while Derek Whalen picked up the win.
Tanner Yard, T.J. Kuny and Greg Martin all had three hits each for Saint Vincent (7-8, 13-16), which had 14 hits in the game to 12 for Waynesburg.
• Washington & Jefferson pounded out 11 extra base hits and defeated Geneva, 23-3, in a PAC game.
Derek Helbing, Ryan Sciullo and James Artale all homered and Canon-McMillan graduate Frank Fortunato tripled for the 19th-ranked Presidents (14-2, 21-7).
Riley Groves picked up the victory, allowing four hits over six innings.
Tyler Paaduan had a double for Geneva (2-15, 8-23).
Forrest Havanis struck out five batters as Marthinsen & Salvitti edged Washington Hyundai, 3-1, in a Founder’s League Pony game.
Brent Kurtz had a double for the winners.
Luke Wagner took the loss for Washington Hyundai.
Courtney Messenger threw a four-hit shutout in the first game as Waynesburg split a non-conference doubleheader with Mt, Aloysius, winning the opener 4-0 before getting shut out in the nightcap, 9-0.
Courtney Syfert had three hits and scored twice in the opener, while Rachel Skon had three hits, including a double, for Waynesburg (12-19-1).
Winning pitcher Hannah Simpson doubled and drove in three runs while combining with Emily Wawroski on a two-hitter in the nightcap for Mt. Aloysius (14-16).
