College baseball roundup: It’s two easy for W&J

Washington & Jefferson, ranked No. 19 in Division III, scored 10 runs in the sixth inning of the first game, and 12 unanswered runs in the second game, to rout Geneva, 13-1 and 12-0, Saturday in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference doubleheader.

The sweep pushes W&J’s record to 23-7 overall and 16-2 in the PAC.

Five different W&J players drove in two runs in the opener to support winning pitcher Trevor Kerr, who allowed one hit over six innings. Ryan Sciullo tripled, and Frank Fortunato, Mark Merlino and Nick Gatins each doubled.

Fortunato homered and drove in three runs in the second game, Dan Trettel doubled and winning pitcher Bryce Schnatterly improved his record to 5-0.

• Slippery Rock swept a PSAC West Division doubleheader from California, 12-5 and 13-7, at Wild Things Park.

Carson Kessler led Slippery Rock (11-7, 20-13), going 6-for-9 with four runs, eight RBI and a home run.

California (9-9, 17-19) received a home run from Levi Krause and a three-run triple by Nico Marchetti in the opener. Joe Yougal homered and doubled in the second game.
