College baseball: Big first inning sends Thiel past Waynesburg
Thiel scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning Monday and had 19 hits as the Tomcats dealt Waynesburg a 14-2 defeat in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game.
Thiel leadoff batter Alex Lam had four hits and scored three runs. Brian Mitchell had three hits, including a homer and triple, and drove in five runs for the Tomcats (11-7, 19-13).
South Fayette graduate Tyler Godwin had a double, while Justin Buberl drove in two runs for Waynesburg (9-9, 15-18), which had a four-game winning streak snapped.
