High school softball roundup: McGuffey rallies to beat Brownsville
Ella Brookman had three hits, including a double, and drove in five runs as McGuffey rallied to beat Brownsville, 9-7, Monday in a Section 3-AAA game.
Danielle White and Megan Gray also doubled for the Highlanders (2-4, 3-8), who scored four runs in the top of the sixth to erase a 6-5 deficit.
Mackenzie Kelly and Emily Bohna both doubled for Brownsville (1-5, 2-8).
• Kylie Sinn allowed just one hit, struck out 12 and hit a home run and double to lead Carmichaels to a 9-1 Section 1-AA win over Jefferson-Morgan.
Megan Walke also homered and doubled for the Mikes (5-1, 8-4).
Brooke Diamond had the lone hit for the Rockets (0-6, 1-8), an RBI double in the first inning.
• Mapletown scored three runs in four of the game’s five innings to beat Fort Cherry, 12-1, in a five-inning nonsection game.
Hannah Dusenberry doubled and Abby McIntire allowed just three hits for the Maples (4-9).
Losing pitcher Chloe Smith doubled for Fort Cherry (3-8).
• Johnna Mocniak hit a grand slam and Maddie Beckinger had four hits, including a home run in Ringgold’s 10-run fourth inning, as the Rams routed Penn Hills 14-4 in a nonsection game.
Beckinger, who also doubled, finished with four RBI for Ringgold (6-6). The game was scoreless until the Rams put up the 10 runs in the fourth. Jillian Scherer was the winning pitcher.
• Madison Lampe had three doubles and drove in four runs, while McKenna Lampe had one double and four RBI as West Greene topped Avella, 19-0, in a three-inning Section 2-A game.
Kaitlyn Rizor added a home run for the Pioneers (8-0, 13-1), who scored 13 runs in the second inning.
Avella falls to 0-7, 0-8.
